Earlier this year Toyota purchased stock in Tesla for shared electric car technology. So it should come as no surprise that the New York Times is reporting that we will see an electric iQ as early as 2010. Interesting “union” between Toyota and Tesla but a little discouraging too. Could it be possible that the electric cars of the future will become the new status vehicles affordable only for the affluent? Even if Toyota finds a way to reduce manufacturing costs by 50% the price point would still hover around $60,000. Add to that the costs of a charging station installation and increased electricity bills and the iQ becomes a rather spendy little ride….
